Today, there are more than 4.5 million Americans with developmental disabilities. As you probably know, the media plays a vital role in educating the public on disability issues and successes and challenges experienced by people with developmental disabilities. It's important to everyone that Americans with disabilities be portrayed realistically particularly focusing on the richness of their lives and the challenges that can be reduced by providing quality supports and services that result in inclusion. Awareness is the first step toward change.
